Heli Niugini is a private company principally operating in Papua New Guinea as well as Australia and the South Pacific region. The company is wholly owned by Heli Bougainville Limited as a Papua New Guinea registered company. The parent company, Heli Bougainville, commenced operations in the North Solomons Province in 1984 with the helicopter support contract for Bougainville Copper Ltd., initially operating a Bell206B111. The company expanded to meet the needs of Bougainville Copper Ltd and the New Guinea island region by adding a second Bell 206 and a Sikorsky S62 to its fleet. Heli Niugini was formed in July 1987 to reflect the company’s expansion to include mainland operations. Hangar and office facilities were purchased in Madang in 1989. Madang was chosen for the company’s head office and maintenance base because of its central location. In addition to its facilities at Madang, the company has permanent bases in Kimbe, West New Britian Province; Moro, Southern Highlands Province and Mt Hagen, Western Highlands Province. Through joint venture and lease arrangements with international operators, Heli Niugini has successfully provided heavy helicopter support capability since 1991. In particular, the 3 tonne lift Bell 214B-1 has been on contract in support of drilling operations with Pecten, LL&E, Command Petroleum, Barracuda and Anderman Smith. As part of our international operations, Heli Niugini have provide heavy helicopter support on a fire fighting contract with the NSW Government for the 94/95 fire season using the Bell 214B-1 We are continuing to provide heavy helicopter support in PNG and operate Kamov KA-32C/T and KA-32A helicopters for Chevron’s drilling and seismic program in the Southern Highlands Province and have provided support for the Tolokuma Gold Mine using a Kamov. We are able to provide additional KA-32, MI-8, MI-17, MI-10 and MI-26 helicopters as required giving a range of lifting capabilities from 4 - 20 tonnes. In addition to our civil operations, Heli Niugini held the contract for crewing and maintenance of the PNG Defence Force Bell 205 (Iroquois) helicopters from their arrival in 1989 through to 1994. We are currently contracted to Highlands Pacific on the Ramu Nickel Cobalt project, Chevron, Oil Search, Esso Highlands and Santos for their 2001/2002 PNG seismic program. The company engineering facility is set up and approved for maintenance of both rotary and fixed wing aircraft and equipped to handle all major requirements of its own fleet of Bell 206 Series helicopters. In addition, Heli Niugini is approved to service other clients aircraft - both fixed and rotary. Heli Niugini is inspected annually by the PNG Civil Aviation Authority to ensure that operational safety standards for maintenance and crewing are met. We have also been inspected by officials from overseas Civil Aviation departments to ensure we are in keeping with international standards and are now approved to conduct maintenance on specific foreign aircraft in our facility at Madang. Representatives from the oil and mining industry conduct regular safety audits to ensure we meet the high standards for the carriage of their personnel. |
